Markie Maddenabout this book: Ever read a book told by a horse? Check out this very simple and easy-to-read book on basic horse care. Follow Athena the horse as she teaches you what the average horse needs to stay healthy, and laugh at the funny stories and anecdotes she tells along the way!
There are plenty of ordinary people out there with their first horse, or those whose daugter says "Daddy, can I have a horse?" Look in your local bookstore for books on horse care, and you'll find plenty! But these books are huge, and full of complicated terminology! You didn't want a textbook on raising horses, you just need to know what it takes to keep one in your backyard, or at a boarding facility. How much do they eat? How much do they need to drink? What sort of health issues might be involved?
Then this book is for you! Athena talks in a language that the average horse person can understand, and where a term is absolutely necessary, she provides a definition. There are also basic diagrams to visuall show certain things, like the shape of a horse's foot.
The author intended this book to help diminish some cases of accidental neglect of horses, by helping to increase education about their basic needs. Often, someone with their first horse doesn't know that their teeth continue to grow throughout their lives, and once in a while need to be filed down. They also get intestinal parasites and need to be dewormed regularly. Their hooves are like fingernails and need to be clipped.
The author hopes to get her book out as far as possible and help reduce neglect by ignorance. Help protect these beautiful creatures!
