Book: Foul Blood by Kevin R. Given
|5 stars based on the 3 most helpful Amazon reviews|
Kevin R. Givenabout this book: This book is a prequel to "Last Rites" it tells the origin story of Karl Vincent and how he became a vampire hunter.
This book will engage readers that enjoy mystery/noir thrillers. Karl was a detective before he became a vampire hunter and it is definitely a page turner that will keep the reader guessing "Who done it?"
I was inspired for this volume by the works of Edgar Allen Poe, Mickey Spillane and Raymond Chandler.
The primary readers will be young to older adults. Both male and female audiences will enjoy "Foul Blood"
It took me three months to write the first draft (I was unemployed at the time) and another two months for the revision.
The title refers to a vampire that drank a "tainted" batch of blood.
The cover is dark and foreboding and the character is mysteriously silhouetted and you can not tell who it is.
The hardest part was leaving out chapters that didn't fit that I spent several months researching.
I did extensive research on the forensics of corpses and how to tell time of death, decomposition, and if certain ligatures were added posthumously, also how they could be added posthumously. I also researched several actual bank robberies for the chapter where one of the antagonists robs a bank.
I learned how to better pace my stories and build suspense better since my first novel "Last Rites."
I want to say to the readers that I hope you enjoy "Foul Blood" more than "Last Rites" I feel it's tighter and more suspenseful than my freshman effort.
what to read next: if you read and liked this book...
