Sarah Englandabout this book: 'Father of Lies' is a supernatural horror novel, and yes, it really is very scary! You may well need to sleep with the lights on for a while after reading ...
So where did this creepy novel come from?
Well,I had always been a fan of Stephen King and Susan Hill, and was forever looking out for occult horrors that would seriously scare me! And I had an unhealthy interest in all things ghostly and inexplicable. So when, after many years of being a fiction writer for magazines, I met a lady with what is commonly known as multiple personality disorder and heard her shocking story - I started to research terrifying subjects like demonology and exorcisms. These books were so scary I gave them to a friend when I'd finished and she had them burnt! Neither of us wanted them in the house!
In addition to this, I had a professional background in psychiatry - a theme which carries into much of my work - and I'd also lived most of my life on the bleak Derbyshire moors in northern England - so with all these influences 'Father of Lies' soon began to take shape.
I thought about the lady I met and the horrific childhood she'd had. What if one of her personalities had been corrupted by the evil she had faced? And if, under hypnosis, this evil persona attached itself to the aura of the very doctor treating her? In my experience few medical personnel have a belief in God, at least not in the UK, so what did they have to protect them when the psychic attack came in an endless black nightmare?
This is the premise of the book, as each member of the medical team attempts to unravel the girl's sinister past. And soon enough all their questions lead them to the most desolate, backward mining village imaginable... to a haunted mill where unbelievable evil took place...and yet their patient, Ruby, had survived. How?
I hope this book makes you think. I hope it gives you an entertaining ride. And I also hope it brings an important message...I'd love it if you could tell me what this is!
