Tiana Laveenabout this book: In My Sister's Shadow is a horror novella. It takes place in Louisiana, and involved unconventional characters that meet in unconventional ways. The Hero is Mark, a mortician and Miami transplant. He works hard, and treats his deceased clients with dignity and care. His world unravels when an alluring, beautiful woman, Bijou, comes into his funeral home to mourn the death of her beloved sister. He is taken aback by her, and dives head first into a chance second meeting with her. Their romance soon grows, but so do the unexplained shadows, noises and the definite presence in his otherwise peaceful home.
This story was fun to write. I love horror movies, so writing a 'scary book' simply had to take place. The characters are engaging and likable, and my aim was to make this a bit different than the run of the mill 'ghost tale.'
My research involved delving deeper into some things I was already aware of, but also a bit more into ghostly encounters. I wanted the story to be scary, not grotesque. I don't feel that a scary story has to be overly gory to get it's point across, matter of fact, some of the creepiest stories I have ever read didn't involve an extreme amount of violence, and this is what I was aiming for.
