Alison Stuartabout this book: Mystery... history...romance and ghosts... a true cross genre historical set in the years following the First World War.
Paul Morrow returned from the war, scarred physically and mentally and unable to forgive himself for not preventing the death of his cousin Charles.
Helen, the Australian widow of Charles, arrives in England to meet her late husband's family for the first time.
The developing love between Paul and Helen sparks off a series of events tied to the past and the disappearance of Paul's great grandmother in 1812.
This story began for me with a visit to the battlefields of the First World War where it is still possible to see today the terrible scars on the landscape of that war. Fields of white headstones mark the passing tide of battle. But the experience of war is universal in the story of Robert and Suzanna and the tragic events of 1812, there is a parallel experience of war.
Ghosts of the past present and past have to be laid to rest before Paul and Helen will know peace.
