Jessica Jamesabout this book: More than 15 years of research for my Civil War romance NOBLE CAUSE paid off when it won the John Esten Cooke Award for Southern Fiction. This award honors authors for their attention to detail when writing about the Civil War, and has been won by many New York Times bestselling authors.
Over the years I've traveled to hundreds of Civil War sites to walk in the footsteps of famous Civil War figures. I also read newspapers, diaries, original records and even obituaries from the time period in order to learn the proper cadence and grammar of the era.
One of the greatest reviews I received was from a professor of Civil War Studies at a Virginia college who said, "I think it could have the impact of a Gone with the Wind."
Additionally, a popular literary blog said of the main characters, "Andrea and Hunter are like a Virginian, Civil War-era Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy," and most recently a reader said the novel was like Gone with the Wind meets The King and I."
I love getting emails from readers who tell me they stayed up all night reading because they couldn't put it down. My favorite message from fans though is when they tell me they enjoyed the love story AND now have an interest in learning more about our nation's history.
