Sybil Powellabout this book: I have always been fascinated by history and in particular the 18th century, so what was more natural than to write my seventh book set in that age. Although I thought I was well versed in the period, when I started my book it took a lot of research much of which I enjoyed. The story is set in the Downs of the south coast in England and follows the adventures of a high born lady who through misfortune is dealt a very rough hand. She becomes a skivvy in a country hostel which proves to be the headquarters of a smuggling gang. During her stay she meets both good and bad of all classes of humanity is threatened with murder by a persistent follower and nearly raped twice. Finally she finds a man who respects and loves her and is in a position to protect her. There are many side issues which help to enliven and widen the story in all I am happy with the book and believe it to be one of my best.
