James Baileyabout this book: Set in the time frame from roughly 1901 to the mid 1930's Bailey Blood is the story of my ancestors and the ongoing feud between two families that raged for three decades. Replete with facts that will turn your hair and my writer's desire to somehow make sense of all the "Moonshine, Murder and Wild Women!"
Readers who enjoy historical fiction will enjoy the intricacies of Bailey's Blood; they will also appreciate how the characters are evolved in just the right way to make them believable, but, in this case - not necessarily so like-able! Intended to be part of a series of Christian Romance novels, Bailey's Blood is also the story of James Bailey - who, had he listened to his heart and extricated himself from his controlling, not so sound of mind mother, may have had a chance at true love and a life lived through a more Godly purpose.
The cover for Bailey's Blood is intended to covey the myriad elements found throughout the book...the history, the moonshine, murder and wild women - but not to be forgotten, the veil of Christian beliefs.
Writing Bailey's Blood was indeed an exploration into my genealogy! I suppose a part of me went in search of my family history, searching for things of which I could be proud. In reality, I found things about which I had to do a great deal of soul searching in order to find understanding and acceptance. I learned that the history books reveal very little of what "life" was really like and learned, as a writer, to draw on the characters to provide readers with that often missed element.
Readers... you will enjoy Bailey's Blood! There are some "strong" and somewhat disconcerting events and the language is "real." This is not a Hollywood, glossing over making things pretty - it is life as it happened to the Bailey family. The book is being considered for a movie - and that warms my author's heart!
