Maryann Millerabout this book: Boxes For Beds seemed like an appropriate title for a story about the skeletons of babies found in an attic. I read a newspaper story about officers making the gruesome discovery after an old woman died in a rural area of Arkansas. My writer's mind immediately started asking why and how this could happen and nobody knew anything about it. I decided to set the story in 1961 near Hot Springs because that is when the mob ruled that city, and it would be believable that they would also control law enforcement. The sheriff has to close the case as quickly as possible, so he decides to pin it on the new lady in town. I went to Hot Springs for research and visited the Gangster Musuem, as well as one of the bath houses. If my central character was going to visit one, I figured I should know what the experience was like so I could describe it accurately. (smile)
I hope readers enjoy the story and get a glimpse into what life was like in the 60s.
