Mary Ann Bernal

Author Mary Ann Bernalabout this book: The first book of the series, The Briton and the Dane begins with a headstrong girl named Gwyneth whose impulsive nature gets herself into a lot of trouble, from rescuing a wounded Norseman named Erik and hiding him from her father, to being kidnapped by Odulf, a Danish warrior, and brought to King Guthrum's encampment, while her family and her betrothed, Cerdic, attempt a rescue. When King Alfred and Gwyneth's father arrive at the Danish Vikings camp, both kings learn of Cerdic's duplicity. Throw into the mix unrest in Wales and an unknown prince rallying support to usurp King Guthrum's throne, and the epic adventure begins.

Originally, my first novel was to be about Gwyneth and Erik, but the storyline quickly evolved to include numerous characters and subplots. It became apparent that more than one book would be needed to complete the narrative and the trilogy was born.

The audio book of The Briton and the Dane is available on Audible and iTunes.

The Briton and the Dane is the first book in the series which takes place in the ninth century. This book caught my attention right away. It was easy to get swept into the drama and intrigue. I was shocked to read about all the deception and deceit though I loved every bit of it. I was totally swept away. I loved the seductive parts of the story as well.

I enjoyed Mary Ann Bernal's clear, crisp writing style. She has a way with words and telling a gripping story. The characters are realistic and the storyline felt like a moving picture. I could see this on the big screen. Great book!
