Book: Lord Esterleigh's Daughter (The Serpent's Tooth Book 1) by Kathy Fischer-Brown

Kathy Fischer-Brownabout this book: Readers often ask writers where they get their story ideas. For me, more times than not, it's from dreams. In the case of "Lord Esterleigh's Daughter," the first book of "The Serpent's Tooth" trilogy, this couldn't be truer.
Many years ago, a dream left me with an image that haunted me for months, of a coach and four racing along a road in a coastal town to a waiting ship in the dark of night. For the longest time, I had no idea what it meant or what to do with it. Who was the young woman in the coach, I wanted to know, and why the secrecy? Was she running away? Had she been abducted? Who were the others in the coach who appeared to control her? And what significance did the ship play? What was its destination?
By starting at the beginning of the story, long before the scene with the racing coach, Anne Fairfield's life and eventual fate became clearer. And it led me on an exploration that lasted off and on for over 25 years. It also involved enormous amounts of research into Georgian Era England and then the American colonies at the onset of the American Revolution.
In the end, that image of the coach — still amazingly vivid in my mind after all this time — played no part in the tale, but proved key to the second and third books, "Courting the Devil" and "The Partisan's Wife."
But that's a whole other story.
4 1/2 Stars "...This is a dark novel that deals with the resentment and anger of a girl who has been misled and cannot seem to get past her grief …. It is well written and entertained me with mystery, suspense, scandal, sinister characters and first love." — Romantic Historical Lovers
