N.E. Brown about this book: Catherine Merit's journey continues as she struggles to finish medical school in spite of the fact that she is tormented by her past. She is befriended by a handsome new doctor and their love blossoms as they begin an on again, off again heated love affair. Raising her children and becoming a doctor brings new challenges and she is forced to flee the city she loves. The small community of Rosenberg, Texas is a short train ride away and she takes the opportunity of open a private practice there. After moving, she finds herself in the middle of controversy when a prominent rich man decides to find out more about her past. Encountering danger, romance, heartache and tragedy, she strives to fit into a world filled with prejudice, hatred and violence where she is forced to kill a man in order to save herself. The book is authentic in tone and tenor. Galveston: 1900, Indignities, The Atonement, exceeds readers expectations for a follow up sequel and sets the bar high for Book 4, The Affirmation, which will be out this year. The series is a classic and epic journey into early Texas history. It's a must read for fans of historical fiction and is strongly recommended.
