R. H. Burkett

Author R. H. Burkettabout this book: Soldiers From the Mist is a unique story in that it was told to me by the ghost of a Civil War soldier who haunted my house. It gave a whole new meaning to the term, "ghost writer." Needless to say, working with a ghost was quite an interesting experience, so much so, that I decided to include these happenings in the book which I entitled, Whisperings. While the Civil War is the backdrop for the book, Soldiers From the Mist is not yet another Civil War story. It's a coming of age story for both young men and woman and revolves around the message of the importance of Universal Love.

While all the characters are quite real, it is my hope that my female protagonist, Emmie Brown, can serve as a role model for young women today. Disguised as a man, Emmie joins the Civil War to look for her brother. Along the way she stops being a victim and learns independence. In my research of the Civil War, I was very surprised to learn how many women fought for both sides.

The Rook and The Raven

 Good story, beautifully told

a review by Pamela Foster

I love a good story, but even more than that, I love a story well told and Burkett gets it right on all counts in this haunting book set during the War between the States.

 Whispered Secrets

The stories of Burkett's Civil War characters were compelling and drew me further into the story, however, I found myself also turning pages to get to the whisperings. The "story behind the story" of how these characters' tales were told is fascinating to me. The book is a page-turner that you won't want to put down. [by Jan Morrill]
