Denise Turnerabout this book: If my I didn't have my dad's handwritten account of what happened to him during WWII, there wouldn't be a book. I read his documents dozens of times ... and I just had to share his story with the world. March 7, 1945 was a day that my father would never be able to forget. I hope readers will imagine what it was like surviving a plane crash and to have such vivid memories of the event. The service men and women from that time period, are approaching the end of their lives, and I'm sure many have already passed on ... their stories untold.
It took about a year to write this book, and during that time, I uncovered bits of new information almost every day. I even found relatives of a few of the crewmen that were in the crash. It's been very exciting.
And the cover ... I knew that I wanted it to be a picture of a B-24, but the images that I found, I couldn't find the owner. Then I found this amazing photograph ... and the owner. I contacted him, and he agreed to let me use it for the front cover. And, now, I am quite happy with the finished product. And I think my dad would be happy too.
