Mitch Daviesabout this book: I bristled when people called this a Young Adult novel just because the protagonists are in their teens. It's a story that takes place during the high schools years of the male and female leads and it deals with the issue of taking responsibility for your own future.
The influences of adults in a teens life are very strong, especially parents and teachers. The main thing is that they may want to shoe horn teens into a future that they thinks is best for the younger person and may not consider what that young person is really interested in. The earlier that teens start to take part in decisions related to their futures the more likely they will learn the value of considered decision making.
Why is it not just a Young Adult novel? Because adults will see their own past in the story. They will be reminded of the time when they had to make decisions that had far reaching effects. They can enjoy the story and hopefully relate to what they went through and what their own teens may go through in high school.
This is not to say that young adults shouldn't read the book. I had one reviewer say that a copy of the book should be given to every high school student and that they need to see how important it is for them to participate in the direction they are headed toward their future.
I enjoyed writing my characters in this book. After all the writing and editing and proof reading, when I wasn't as involved with the book as much, I missed Rory and Victoria.
