Laurie Hananabout this book: After a lifetime of reading mysteries, starting with Nancy Drew when I was six years old, I knew I wanted to be a mystery writer. In 2006 I retired from the Honolulu Post Office and embarked on my new career. It was only natural that a postal worker would take center stage in my books. My hope is to entertain my readers with a character and circumstances they can relate to, the thrill of danger, and a good dose of humor. I also try to share my homeland, the beautiful Island of Oahu.
How Far is Heaven? is the second Louise Golden mystery. The story takes place during the Christmas season. While delivering mail for long hours in nasty weather, Louise is trying to deal with holiday traditions she feels disconnected from, family issues that just won't go away, a slick-as-oil villain, and four men who seem oh so right for her and yet totally wrong. After being suspended from work due to an unfortunate accident, she embarks on a quest for a justice for a woman who won't find it without her help.
This book was so much fun to write. During the two years I spent working on it, I had a lot of help and advice from several excellent writers, including bestselling author William Bernhardt. I learned a lot about tightening up the plot, keeping up the suspense, and writing a good ending.
