Stevie Woodsabout this book: When I got the chance to submit for a gay historical anthology with the option to choose any time period from history I jumped at it. I'm a long time history fan and I've got more than half a dozen novels and novellas to my name so it was an easy choice for me – what was not so easy was choosing the time period in which to set my story.
The first thing I decided was that I wanted to set the story in Britain and as I thought back to the rich history of my home country I thought back to a place I'd visited only a short time earlier, Northumbria. A beautiful part of the country with a rich history, parts of it famous for the early Viking incursions. That's it, I thought, first thinking of the famous invasion and destruction of Lindisfarne, but then I had second thoughts. Perhaps more interesting would be the slightly less well known attack on Jarrow Priory just a little further south on the Northumbrian coast.
I had my setting, all I needed next was to create the characters that I was going to send to defend it and protect each other so they could return home and celebrate in each other's arms.
