Sarah Jane Butfieldabout this book: Sarah Jane's back, and this time the woman with a reputation for culinary catastrophe is trying to keep her family fed in a frugal style in rural France. This was not part of their big plan when they relocated from Australia on a bucket list quest to renovate a quaint cottage in the Charente. However, when work plans didn't come to fruition the living frugally challenge was set. Could they continue the renovation and survive in France with very little money and two Australian cattle dogs?
In true 'Good Life' style Sarah Jane's answer came in the form of 5 chickens, 4 ducks and converting a garden, that resembled a meadow, into a kitchen garden (potager). Sarah Jane hoped to replicate the French potager tradition which is renowned for successfully feeding large families a range of healthy foods.
With some mishaps and funny anecdotes along the way Sarah Jane has included 31 recipes for a variety of dishes made from home-grown vegetables, foraged fruits, nuts and even stinging nettles! In this month by month account, find out how they transformed a little piece of France in Sarah Jane's Secret Garden.
