Charles Mahoneyabout this book: Story of The Ghost is my debut novel that took me roughly 2.5 years to write. The title stems from my experience playing football at The University of Arizona. This was in the mid 90's.
One day, a person who I did not know came up to me and said, "Hey, you're The Ghost." I had never heard that before and so I shrugged it off.
Years later, the notion of that moment and those words struck me. Here I was going about my business of achieving my goal and someone gave me this title. Maybe they thought I was better than I really was, I don't know.
I wanted to see what would happen with my sixteen year old hero, Gavin if he were put upon like that. What if it wasn't just one stranger who thought of him that way - but an entire town? And what would happen if things go out of control? What choices would he make? How would he handle the pressure?
And so I wrote SOTG from this aspect. The story takes place in the flesh and blood world - the world we all know, albeit 33 years ago. A time and place where print, radio and local TV was it for "Instant Communication".
SOTG is a story of fate, heorics, fathers and sons and of course...football. My hero plays the game and I was able to craft unique sequences that haven't been done before in a book or on film. I used my own playing experience to write something very original and I think it works. SOTG is also a hero's journey. Some of my favorite stories involve the Sage/Mentor who can't go on the journey but is there to help the hero grow through the changes taking place.
Your eighteen year old son might enjoy my work. Or your uncle who eats up lit fiction. Maybe you like Cormac Mccarthy and so maybe you'll appreciate some of my run ons and sentence fragments. SOTG is a little story with big themes written with the big screen in mind. In fact, it has an alternative Hollywood ending that was taken out and reserved for the studios to review my work. Will you see it on the big screen? The reporter who nicknames Gavin "The Ghost" sees it that way.
I hope you enjoy my novel, Story of The Ghost, available exclusively on Amazon Kindle. It is priced at $2.99. That's roughly a dollar for every year it took to bring it to life. A real bargain if you ask me...
