Bob Domonkosabout this book: South Beach Riot is an absurd, over-the-top farce about life in the hottest spot in the U.S.-- South Miami beach. I've lived on Collins Avenue and been witness to some of the craziest human interactions imaginable. Anybody who likes Carl Hiassen books, murder mysteries, and side-splitting comedies will get a kick out of these characters. And although on the surface the book is very slapstick, there are trenchant life-lessons to be culled from deep within its pages.
Molly Benton is a cub reporter for "The Gadfly", a free newspaper circulated around the beach. She's anxious to make her mark in the publishing business. Jerry Flores is a veteran recently returned from Iraq. He's just trying to regroup after all he's been through. Fatal D and Devil Dog are gay gangsters from Atlanta who decide it's time to cash in on the rap music business. Smokey Wilson is the leader of the Lummus Park Philosophizers Club and he's adamant about stopping rapacious developer Lewis Newton from erecting condos on the park he and his gang live in.
