about this book: Fastian inherited custody of a sword from his ancestors. He also recieved guardianship of a boy named Meryl, from a dying friend. He made it appear to the world that the boy was the son of his housekeeper, but the affairs of Kings intruded into his carefully constructed world. King Arpad of Estruchi wanted to free his domain from servitude to neighboring Bahadi. The King ordered Fastian his First Minister to use the guise of a visiting ambassador to steal the Light sword from his neighbours, so that he would use the sword as leverage to press his claims for freedom.

Fastian travelled to Bahadi with Meryl, but their quest forced out the secrets that he has held close for many years. Meryl's life was threatened in the course of their quest, and Fastian had to reveal the parentage of the young man to save his life. It is a story about the faithfulness of a man and his ancestors, and the revealing of a long lost lineage.
