S.K. Holderabout this book: "Pools" is about Lark and her best friend Shelley who embark on a magical adventure when they fall through a hole in their neighbor's attic. I don't want to ruin the story by telling readers what they discover. I can say that Lark, Shelley, and Lark's brother and his best friend are set an assignment they are reluctant to undertake. They hatch a plan to absolve themselves of the task and in doing so get themselves deeper into trouble, unleashing a cacophony of magic that is beyond their control.
I wanted to write a quirky modern day fantasy so cell phones and laptops are involved! The hardest part of writing the book was the plot. I don't write with a plot in mind. My stories always start with the characters. I had idea for a hole in an attic and a magical dimension and built the story around these two concepts.
The book is suitable to children aged 11 to 12 and for young teenagers.
