Julie Harvey Delcourtabout this book: I was sitting at my desk, motivated to start writing a story I had in my head for years when two ravens landed outside my window. Yes, it was very Edgar Allen Poe. I grabbed my camera, took a photo, and there was the cover art. It all fell into place from there.
Jessamy and Sebastian and their angst ridden and long parted love story burst into being. Sean (my charming and handsome but not for the ladies) playwright and BFF to Jessamy walked in with a wry smile. David, the third wheel, who will get a love story of his own as a true hero should, found himself involved in a twisting royal coupe, failed loves, magic, English history and mythology.
It just poured out. How I managed to set all this in just post Regency London and still incorporate a reinvention of Avalon, a short aside into the Battle of Waterloo, evil Vikings and some erotica threaded in is a mystery even to me. I loved every minute of it, lost myself in whole other world, and often looked up at the clock to see it was 3 AM or even later!
A novella telling the tragic love story of Conal and Clara will come in between Rook and Raven and then Rook's Forfeit will be coming along. While I love a good fairy tale, I like them a bit dark, never too perfect and certainly complicated. I hope you do too! You'll get the title and the plays on words when you read the book and the two to follow in the trilogy. I like chess. My master spies love a good game of intrigue as well as a good pun.
