H. B. Boltonabout this book: Life's interesting in how it twists and turns, and you never really know which direction you'll end up going. No, I didn't always plan to become an author. Before embarking on a career in writing, I majored in Art Education and taught AP Art to high school students for eight years. Truthfully, building fictitious worlds and bringing imaginary characters to life charges my creative spirit in much the same way as telling a story visually on canvas does.
Before writing the Relics of Mysticus series, I wanted to send an average kid on a quest where he could encounter supernatural creatures, magical trinkets and enchanted foods. That was when the idea came to me, and I created the land of Sagaas, or Land of the Gods. My characters would soon visit the various mythological realms and have many exciting escapades.
According to the Native American people, we are all guided through life by an animal totem. In The Trickster's Totem, not only can the Native Americans shape-shift into their animal guides, when in their human form, a colorful mark (depicting their animal totem) rolls around their body. But my favorite part was having Evan and Claire discover what animals guide them.
