David McCain about this book: I am an inadvertent author. Real estate law is my stock and trade. I initially bought a "How to write your own autobiography" kit for my ailing and aging Dad so we could spend more alone time together. We had great fun doing so until he became very ill and passed. I had an unfinished book on my hands and it sat there for several months while I struggled with his death and with how to finish the book. I decided to complete my Dad's story by writing about the very emotional and medically challenging three day drive we had from Ft. Lauderdale to Connecticut during his last days alive. The result is I Love You Dad. I originally had copies made and gave them to family and friends for Christmas 2013. To my surprise, my friends and family started sharing I Love You Dad with their friends and family. Soon enough, I was receiving letters and emails from complete strangers thanking me for my work and relaying their own stories to me. Those communications encouraged me to consider that non-family and non-friends would be interested in I Love You Dad. I had the book professionally edited and formatted and subsequently published by Createspace in Early January 2015. It has since been stocked for sale on the book shelves at the University of Notre Dame and Brown University. Books and Books, a local chain bookstore in South Florida and a top five finalist for national bookstore of year also stocks I Love You Dad. To coincide with the celebration of Father's Day, Books and Books will be sponsoring a book reading in June 2015 using professional actors from Mad Cat Theatre. Amazon and Kindle carry I Love You Dad as well. Needless to say, this is all amazing to both me and to my editor. Notre Dame and Brown have embraced the book and it has been blogged about, tweeted about, and appeared in both of their alumni magazines. I had my first book fair signing event here in Miami on April 20th and sold more copies than I expected. I have upcoming signings in May with the Brown Club of Miami, in June at Books and Books in Coral Gables, and at the first home football game at the University of Notre Dame on September 5th when Notre Dame plays Texas.
Not being an author by trade, I have been completely humbled by the reception of I Love You Dad and the emotional responses I have received from those who have read it.
