Dennis Timothyabout this book: Anyone who enjoys humorous family drama will be drawn to this story. And, I think every reader will identify with at least one of the book's characters.
The title "Merry Hell" is a substitution of the usual "Merry Christmas" greeting for the UK phrase which denotes chaos or mayhem.
The cover is a photo of a Christmas tree, as seen through a window while outdoors. You can see the snow falling and piling up to nearly the window sill. This seemed a perfect image of one of the key elements of the story – the blizzard which prevents anyone from leaving.
The story seemed perfectly normal to me, as I dread the usual holiday fuss, and I live in an area where winter storms routinely make travel difficult or impossible. Possibly the most challenging aspect of the story was developing strong female characters; each with a distinct personality and a wicked sense of humor.
The book is easy to read and easy to follow. It's a delightful blend of humor and drama that satirizes the average family get-together.
