Kevan Billingtonabout this book: 'The Lightning Child' - Book one in 'The Children of Sorrow' Trilogy
Majyk was an elemental force of nature, a dark and malevolent force that feasted on destruction and chaos. Since the dawn of time the Vissiart warriors had watched this beast, learned its secrets and harnessed its powers. Using crystals and their knowledge of Majyk, the Vissiart could communicate with one another across great distances and they could bring light to the darkness. They learned how to make fire with nothing but a touch and, slowly, they learned the power of 'Words'. But they saw that Majyk grew evermore powerful; great swathes of the world were blasted and desolate, and they knew that left unchecked the beast would eventually destroy the whole world and everything in it.
The Vissiart resolved to put an end to the beast, and across centuries they did battle. Majyk was contained, but never beaten. Countless thousands died. And then, after two millennia, the 'Words' were written. The remnants of the once great Vissiart gathered on the plains of their beginnings and spoke them. Majyk could not fight against their power, but before it was defeated it spat out at the heavens and the very fabric of the universe was torn. Only the Vissiart knew the curse that they had unleashed. The people of world flourished and as time passed the deeds of the Vissiart (Wizard, in the crude tongue of men) were forgotten, and men grew suspicious and fearful of those strange and insular folk, blaming them for every misfortune that befell them.
Imagine another world, a world where an identical force of nature held dominion; where none had stood before it. Unhindered, how would it manifest itself in the fullness of time? What wickedness and torment would it lavish upon those that fell before it?
Imagine then if these two worlds collided…
• 'Absolutely wonderful and thoroughly enjoyed. I've read many fantasy novels yet this one still manages to bring something different to the table. I'm now off to make my way through the third. Thanks for the great read, an excellent way to spend my days off.'
