Sandy Graham about this book: This book started as a writing assignment in a creative writing class; namely, to write about 5,00 words on an escape from an institution. That led me to think about what might have happened in the man's life to bring him to this predicament near its end. It blossomed from there into twelve integrated segments of Dino Parelli's life from high school to death. He, Ellie Sampson and an ex-marine he calls The Frock struggle to build a business producing pizza dough for pizzerias and pizza chains, a niche market few would think to address.
The story deals with the major themes of enduring love and trials of a turbulent life. Each segment, which I like to call slices in view of the title, has its own premise. Humor, emotion, success and tragedy all make an appearance. Perhaps more meaningful in our current political environment, it illustrates an answer to those who believe social responsibility should be provided by the private sector rather than government. Not that I think any of the wealth hoarders will be persuaded to mend their ways.
