Victoria Randallabout this book: Come on Home, Children is the 2nd book in my dystopian trilogy positing the question: what would our society be like if it became a felony to have a baby without a license?
The first book is about a mother trying to protect her unborn child. This second book is about different characters, a mother who has a four year old girl, Katy, targeted by the Bureau of Population Control. When Katy is confiscated and taken to a Center for Abandoned Children, her mother determines to move heaven and earth to recover her. But even if she does, what kind of life will they have, if they must stay on the run from the corrupt police? The solution her mother finally settles on is terrifying yet might just succeed.
The part I enjoyed writing most are the chapters from Katy's point of view, a bright four year old caught up in the illogical, cruel world of government bureaucracy. I also enjoyed writing of her mother's transformation, with echoes of My Fair Lady and Cinderella; and recreating Seattle of the future.
One reader described it as: "A trenchant, compelling prophecy - may it never come to pass!"
