Virginia Llorcaabout this book: Where did everybody go?
Well, actually, Deanie knows. That germ, whatever it was, took her family, just about everyone else it seems, and almost took her. Except for a hungry cougar here and there and an occasional armed whacko or two, Deanie finds no one. Fortunately, thanks to her savvy military dad who had no qualms about taking his eleven year old daughter to the range with him and insisted she watch Bear Grylls with him, few people are more well-equipped to care of themselves than Deanie.
On her own, driven across the country by same vague necessity that she refuses to dwell on, Deanie encounters few survivors and most of them need to be summarily dispatched. Maybe it is the need to be part of a community that leads her, but after several years of relying on her own judgement and skills, Deanie comes across a newly developing small society and is invited to join. Will she be able to put aside her necessary self-survival instincts to live, share and love with others?
Her biggest challenge comes when she finds she isn't really alone anymore.
