Marissa Shrockabout this book: The First Principle is a dystopian thriller about a teenage girl who must submit to her country's mandatory pregnancy termination law for underage girls or seek the help of a rebel group and fight for her child's life.
I wrote this young adult novel that takes place in the futuristic United Regions of North America because the idea of a woman fighting against a forced abortion intrigued me. I wanted to know how the character would battle oppression and what sort of society would create a law that trampled the citizens' rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. This novel explores the importance of the first of those principles—life. Because without life, there can be no liberty or pursuit of happiness.
• "I absolutely loved The First Principle, a dystopian story with a Christian twist...Tear jerking, heart-racing, and beautifully written." — Tessa, 16
• "Raises good questions about government control and personal freedom...I would recommend this book to my older friends." — Rebecca, 13
