Inge H. Borg

Author Inge H. Borgabout this book: After the Cataclysm is Book 3 of the "Legends of the Winged Scarab" series. It takes place two years after the North American Supervolcano in Yellowstone National Park erupts. Most of the US lies devastated. World dominance shifts to South America.

Egyptologist Naunet Wilkins (nee Klein) and her scientist husband Jonathan flee the devastated East Coast in a small sailboat after the Egyptian archaeologist Jabari El-Masri promises them a new life on a Venezuelan island. He himself fled there by giving his ton of his ancient gold tablets to Lorenzo Dominguez, a dubious South American billionaire who refurbished an abandoned Russian cruise ship. This is the very real Lyubov Orlova purportedly still afloat with only cannibal rats on board.

Naunet comes to realize that all gold does not glitter as far as promises go. Once again, she must choose between professionalism, and her passion to save the ancient curses and prophecies. It becomes a race for her life.

Several of the characters jump into Cataclysm from Book 2, "Sirocco, Storm over Land and Sea." As we say, "I wondered whatever happened to him/her," we now know.

I first chose the title "Southern Trades," but not everyone is familiar with the tradewinds. Since Book 2 ends with an ominous rumble from the earth, starting off with a volcanic eruption was a natural; and then, I stumbled upon that ghost ship. Its role simply grew -- suddenly, the British press was full of a supposed sighting, and everyone feared that upon beaching itself onto England's shore, it may spew forth rats and pestilence. Too bad, that happened a month before I published. There actually is a dedicated website to the ongoing search for this ship.
