J.J. DiBenedettoabout this book: "Dream Child" is the third book in the Dreams series, picking up Sara Alderson's life after she's graduated medical school and started on her residency at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Besides her 90-hour workweeks, Sara's got other challenges, including three children - her four-year-old daughter Lizzie, and fraternal twins who are just three months old.
She also faces a unique challenge - Lizzie has inherited Sara's ability to see other people's dreams, and that forces Sara to once again confront a mystery. Her daughter is sharing the dreams of a little boy, a friend, who is terrified of the "scary man in the big black car" who's blackmailing the boy's father. To make it even more complicated, the boy's father is a Congressman.
I think that this book covers a universal theme: how do we best protect our children from the world, or should we even try? Sara's daughter is seeing things in her dreams that no child should have to see, and Sara can't stop the dreams, all she can do is try to figure out how to explain them in a way a small child can understand, and give her little girl the tools to cope with them.
As with the previous books in this series, I think readers will identify with Sara and her struggles, and they'll find her someone worth rooting for.
