Tanya Carlysleabout this book: Laura Jessop was taking a well-deserved holiday to try to forget the problems of the past few months. As the Headmistress of a large girls' independent school she had been dismayed when the body of her Head Caretaker was discovered in the school grounds (Under Mary's Oak). She was not filled with confidence when Detective Inspector Dave Jenkins turned up to lead the investigation into the murder. He reminded her of Columbo, the bumbling TV detective, but the culprit was discovered thanks to a combination of their talents.
So when she returned from her holiday to discover a second body had been found in the school she was shocked. This time the body had lain undiscovered for twenty years and the evidence trail had gone cold. Once again Laura and the inspector worked together to solve the case.
Writing a series of books involving Laura Jessop and Dave Jenkins is allowing me to really develop the characters. I hope that the reader is enjoying the characterisation as much as the plot, and I've been pleased to read reviews that confirm this.
• "The characters really develop, especially Laura and the inspector. I love the way that the official investigation and Laura's sleuthing is mixed together and neither work out 'who done it' without help from the other."
• "The characters are very believable and have been well developed, especially those that appear in "Under Mary's Oak"."
