C. W. Schultzabout this book: "THE PACK" is about a group of privileged young men who form a business dealing in bookmaking, event planning and organized gambling as a fun way to get some extra dough; but their success eventually spirals into a disastrous war with organized crime groups and even each other.
C. W. Schultz's sophomore novel tells the ultimate tale of book-smarts versus street-smarts, thoroughly examining both the complexities and shallowness of characters on each side of the battle.
Schultz was raised in a neighborhood that was an equal distance from the rich kids living in mansions to the underprivileged kids living in the projects. The strange part of that upbringing was seeing the rich kids at school trying to act more ghetto than they actually were, and seeing the poor kids at school trying to act more preppy than they actually were. This was the start of the author's understanding that people have a tendency to be unhappy no matter how much or little they have, and will make both positive and negative adjustments to themselves to appease this perplexing urge.
