Peter Alpert about this book: Runaway: A Tragedy of Youth is a novel based upon an actual criminal case I handled in 1978. It deals with difficult family dynamics, a teenager who runs away from home in search of a better life and the complications that come with that decision. I have followed the case over the years and the book brings the reader current and leaves one pondering some of of society's problems in dealing with juveniles. The book is written from my perspective as a recently retired attorney and as a former district judge. My goal is to shine the light on the plight of juveniles in our legal system and the role parents play (or, in my opinion, should play).
The book is written from my perspective. Although the based on a true story, I have changed all of the names and places, as well as expanding on some of the facts. A considerable amount of research was done as the original facts date back 37 years and memories tend to fade.
