Book: Hijack (A Sgt Major Crane novel) by Wendy Cartmellcategories: Book, Psychological Suspense, Military Thriller, Seige, Hostage, Terrorist, Crime Thriller
Wendy Cartmellabout this book: Hijack was born out of a casual conversation. We were discussing book plots, when a friend asked if I knew about the 1975 Dutch siege. I didn't and vowed to look it up. Once I did so, I thought it would be an ideal plot for my SIB Sgt Billy Williams.
Returning home from a visit to his parents in Carlisle, Billy takes the train on the Carlisle to Settle railway, which goes over a 100' high viaduct. The perfect location for a hijack. Team that up with a contemporary terrorist threat, ISIS and Hijack was born.
It's not such much a military adventure, as a taut psychological thriller. How do the passengers on the hijacked train cope? What strain are the hijackers under? Can a police negotiator deal with a psychotic killer? Will the hijacker's demands be met, or will the edict, 'we will not negotiate with terrorists' be upheld.
