Book: Murphy's Heist by David Chilcottcategories: Book, Adventure, Isle of Man, Realistic, Motor Yachts, Fast-Paced, Crime Thriller
David Chilcottabout this book: This is a crime thriller, and this is the kind of book I read myself. My favourite authors are Elmore Leonard and Robert B Parker, both writers who make reading a joy.
I hope I have made my book easy to read, too. It took six months to write, and initially, it wasn't going to be anything about Northern Ireland! But an incident that happened to me a long time ago, in Belfast, set me thinking: what do the Belfast criminals do now that the troubles are over? When you create characters, they take over plotline sometimes, and some characters attain greater prominence than intended! They all seem like my friends, be they good or bad!
The hero is a watercolour painter (which I just happen to be). This makes it easy to get his job, and his life right. And he can be in the right place at the right time. And he can break off his work, and follow leads. Being an ex-professional soldier means that he is still fit and active, not the sort of man you would want to cross. What this book shows, is that it's committing the crime that is the easy part. It is fencing the goods that can be very difficult.
