Author Helen Macie Ostermanabout this book: This book is number five in a cozy mystery series. I try to teach my readers something in each book I write. My protagonist, Emma Winberry, is a senior citizen with a sixth sense and she talks to her Guardian Angel for advice. She is a supernumerary (extra) in the opera.

In this book, Delia Armanetti, a member of the opera chorus, has a stroke, leaving her paralyzed on the right side and unable to speak. However, I learned from a speech therapist that the area for singing is located in a different part of the brain, So, Delia is able to sing some of the songs she has learned. It's called Music Intonation Therapy and is used for some stroke patients.

Delia and Emma are friends and Emma realizes that Delia's new daughter-in-law, June, does not want to care for a disabled woman. She has a hidden past and decides to get rid of Delia. Any more and I'll be giving away the best parts.

I am a retired nurse and always bring some of my medical background into my books. Sometimes I don't realize that I'm doing it. It usually takes me a year to write a book and submit a finished copy to my publisher.

The most difficult part of writing any book is the middle. I know how it begins and have a pretty good idea of the ending, but my characters tell me how to write the 100 pages in the middle.

The late Dr. Michael Palmer, author of medical thrillers, said in a review: Osterman is a nurse who understands what it means to care and be cared for. Her writing is scalpel sharp and much more intelligent than some of the cozies I have read.
