Patricia K. Battaabout this book: What Did You Do Before Dying? is the first book in the Marge Christensen Mystery Series, a traditional who-dun-it series with an amateur female sleuth following the clues to solve the crimes. It is the type of mystery without the blood and gore, without the graphic sex, and without the bad language. I started the book between jobs, when I decided it would be fun to write the type of book I enjoyed reading. It took forever to write this first book because I was working and after I retired I still had to figure out how to make it good enough to publish.
My target audience is female readers in their thirties and up, but I've been delighted at how many men have read and enjoyed the book. This is the first crime solving effort for Marge, because the police say her husband committed suicide, and she has to prove them wrong. She also has to figure out what he did with all their money before he died, and how she is going to live now. Once bitten by the sleuthing bug, however, Marge will go on to step on Detective Pete Peterson's toes by getting involved in more of his cases.
