Ellen Carlsen about this book: Reviewers have called Redbud "beautifully written" and "more substantive than your typical cozy mystery." This novel answers questions about what it means to be human and what it takes to recover from unimaginable loss. Put together a damaged woman, a magical Nebraska town, hidden treasure, a 110-year-old man, a police chief with a surprising hobby, a group of dog rescuers, and a series of murders and you have Redbud, the first novel in the Dog Lady Mystery series. Above all else, Redbud is a dog lovers delight. The book's author grew up in Nebraska but now lives in St. Louis where she is the founder and president of a dog rescue organization. The second novel in the series, The Chihuahua Affair, is also available. A third will be available this summer. The author's approach to writing mysteries varies from that of most mystery writers in that she doesn't solve the mystery herself until she is well into the writing process. She says that her characters sometimes let her know that her original idea just won't work.
