Jill Blakeabout this book: I'm a worrier. Writing is my way of resolving issues that bother me in real life. That's why I love writing romance – no matter what kind of bad stuff happens to the characters, ultimately the hero and heroine get their happily ever after.
Each of the books in my Doctors of Rittenhouse Square trilogy grew out of an issue that's kept me up at night.
I also write what I know. (Fiction writing 101.) During the day, I am a physician with a busy medical practice, and after hours I am a mom of three active kids. These days, when I write about the lives physicians and their families, I feel as intimately connected with my characters as I do with my friends and family. Which is not the same as saying that my work is autobiographical (though some bits are…I leave it to you, the reader, to speculate about that). I simply try to make plausible the things my characters experience and how they interact with the world around them. Likewise the settings where my characters live, work, and travel: they are all places that are recognizable (even if some of them, like the town of Oakridge, can't be found on any map).
Taking a Chance (Book 2) deals with every doctor's worst nightmare: getting sued for malpractice despite doing everything right. Here, the heroine undergoes this experience and, as a result, loses sight of what she loves about being a doctor. The story picks up with what happens to her after the lawsuit gets settled. Luckily, she not only rediscovers the joys of practicing medicine, but also finds love in the process.
