Mary Tate Engelsabout this book: Kayla ran a smoothing hand down her side in an unconscious gesture, and Griff noted her feminine shape with approval. "You from here in New Mexico?"
"No. I live in Tubac. In Arizona." She bit into the delicate Indian fry bread.
Griff's brown eyes glanced at her. "I know about Tubac. It's mostly an arts community now. I'm from Tucson."
She licked a pearl of honey from the corner of her mouth and he fought to keep from licking that spot, himself. "You're right, though. I'm new. I've only been there three months. I'm starting a new business."
"Good. What kind? I'm in the advertising business."
"Well, I may need your services. My business is designing distinctive Southwest Indian clothes for the mass market. I need someone to help me get started, maybe locally at first. I need to sell my ideas and designs. Maybe develop a marketing portfolio."
Oh, how she wanted it to be a success. Not only because designing was her love and expertise, but because these Indian designs were so special to her. They perpetuated an art that previously had been passed down from mother to daughter, but was being lost to modern generations. With her creations for the mass market, the Southwest Indian patterns could be preserved forever. They wouldn't die with the young, who moved away from their culture and forgot the intricate beauty created by their grandmothers. They would be everlasting, ever changing, ever growing.
From the Author- This story idea was nurtured from an actual experience with friends creating a line of clothing using Native American designs and modernizing their appeal on fabric. While their business concept didn't take off, this story created the possibility of melding the past with the future, honoring the beauty of their art work and bringing it to life in today's modern world.
