Cat Shafferabout this book: Keeping Secrets started with a big "what if?" What if two young people met on a train, fell hard for each other and circumstances then kept them apart -- for a decade?
This contemporary romance, set in Colorado, is also the story of learning to reconcile your current self with the past, family relationships and whether to chance opening up to be hurt again.
I was challenged by my son and a bookseller friend to write Keeping Secrets. They loved the story line and insisted that I get it in gear and tell the story of Rik and Miranda. Once I began, the story flowed out almost faster than I could type! These two took on a life of their own, hurrying me along so they could reach their happy ending.
Set in a small town, Keeping Secrets has a cast of colorful characters that small town so often offer. The matchmaking women had a mind of their own and did a whole lot more to this poor couple than I ever would have on my own and provided some chuckles, too.
My hope is that the story of these two and their reluctance to take a chance again with each other will resonate with the reader and maybe help them take a look at their own missed chances.
