Rebecca J. Vickeryabout this book: Looking Through the Mist evolved from a dream I had after hearing of the kidnapping of a child on the radio. The book took over a year to complete and I researched the reactions of psychics to the continued trauma of having visions. My interest in law enforcement and their use of psychics to hep solve cases was a motivator behind this story.
Oddly, the title also arrived during my dream. This is the way my heroine of the story begins and ends her visions, in a swirling, foggy shroud of mist within her mind -- as if she is 'Looking Though the Mist'. A psychic I actually talked with, who requested to remain anonymous, told me: "What I see is accurate, but as humans we often interpreted it incorrectly." I used a variation of this statement in the book. It must be a frustrating thing to "see" events and be unable to transform them into words others will grasp or act upon. Or worse yet, be unable to find anyone who will believe. I hope I have touched on this within Jessica's struggles to help save the kidnapped children.
This novel was written for readers who enjoy romance with a twist of something more. There are elements of mystery, suspense, humor, and danger mixed throughout. While dealing with the serious topic of child kidnapping, I made a point of trying to keep the story down to earth and realistic, with a fallible hero and heroine, and set in a location I know well.
