Gail Pallottaabout this book: Many discuss whether or not Chronic Lyme disease exists, but I know it does because I have it. Barely Above Water, a contemporary romance, tells the story of a young woman stricken with it. In the back of the book two experts, who've helped me lead an active life, answer questions about the mysterious malady.
Ten years ago I grew very ill. After a month of tests, the doctor told me they couldn't diagnose my malady, so they couldn't treat me. Through divine intervention I was led to David Lee, D.C., Ph.D., C.Ad., an alternative doctor who's an expert on Lyme disease.I scheduled an appointment, and he started treating me immediately for a toxic substance. Later, a scan at his office showed the bacteria for Chronic Lyme disease. Since then I've met and heard of many people suffering from this disease, or an illness that can't be diagnosed. Their stories touched my heart and inspired me to write Barely Above Water, which gives information about symptoms and treatments for the disease. The technical material is woven around a romance and a cute group of youngsters on a summer league swim team, so it's fun as well as informative.
From a book review by DiAne Gates, "Ms. Pallotta writes an endearing story of hope, love, and healing coming out of despair. I especially enjoyed the way she educated us, without realizing we were learning, about Lyme Disease. A story that made me want to cheer.."
From Julie C: "This book is exceptionally well written. It takes the reader into the life of Suzie who battles an unknown illness, and the roller coaster havoc to her body and life it causes. Yet instead of feeling pity, I couldn't help but root her on..."
