Book: Miss Locatelli by Sheila Claydoncategories: Book, Jewellery, Florence, Italy, Family, Romantic Fiction, London, Contemporary Romance
Sheila Claydonabout this book: Ideas for stories and characters can be triggered by the so many different things. I've written books that were prompted by a holiday, and overheard conversation, a photograph, even a 'do not trespass' sign. In the case of Miss Locatelli it was a combination of spending a long weekend in Florence, reading a magazine article about a jeweller, and being given a bracelet for my birthday.
These three things wove themselves into a story that starts in London but which mostly takes place in Florence and its surrounding countryside. It includes the noisy warmth of Italian families as well as their disappointments and arguments, and it is also the story of a girl (Arabella Locatelli) who is tested in a way she never envisaged or even wanted for herself.
She makes a lot of mistakes along the way but by the end of the book her determination and tenacity had earned my admiration. I also wished that her hero was more than just a figment of my imagination.
