Hebby Romanabout this book: My inspiration for Catalina and the Winter Texan came from my love of the beach. I like to fantasize what it would be like to live on the ocean all year round. And on my first visit to South Padre Island at the tip of Texas, I fell in love with that beach area. South Padre has miles and miles of unspoiled beach, lots of it is a National Seashore, and all the beaches are public. Because South Padre is relatively remote, there is a great deal of wild life to enjoy. Pelicans are a common sight, as are dolphins, playing in the waves right off the beach. It's a haven for sea turtles, too. Even though there has been development in the past few years, there are still acres and acres of natural beaches.
My creativity was also inspired when I learned about winter Texans or "snowbirds" as they've been nicknamed, who live in south Texas during the winter and return north in the summer. Most of these folks are retired or semi-retired, so naturally, I began to think about writing a romance series based on older couples finding love again. Some snowbirds rent condominiums for the winter, but a large percentage of them drive their recreational vehicles for hundreds of miles to spend the winter in a warmer climate.
Putting all of these ideas together, led me to create a fictional RV Park located on South Padre's beach as the setting for my romance series featuring snowbirds. Catalina and the Winter Texan is the first in this series. I hope you enjoy reading about older couples and their unique romantic challenges as much as I enjoyed writing about them.
