Book: Landscape by Philip G Henleycategories: Book, Art, Lost Love, Gambling, Urban Setting, National Gallery, Contemporary Romance
Philip G Henleyabout this book: This is a short contemporary romance about two characters. They meet and fall in love, then part, but this tale is combined with their mutual love of art. Their relationship falls apart because of the gambling of the male. Will they meet up again? Set over two timelines several years apart but in modern settings. Each chapter takes apiece of art as its backdrop and inspiration.
I wanted to try my hand at this genre and I have an interest in art and especially the National Gallery in London. Several of the pictures mentioned are displayed there. I have tried to make the story whimsical and the lead characters are deliberately unnamed. There is an air of sadness and redemption. I wanted to include this feeling but also coincidence and the role of odds in language and life.
We all often use betting terms in our lives from the "no chance with…" description to "what are the odds?" as a description of coincidence.
In many ways this story is an experiment in genre and length, my other books are much longer. I hope you take a chance on it and enjoy it.
