Linda Wood Rondeauabout this book: The idea of this book came from a short autobiographical article I wrote about my former community, Malone, New York, and how I met my husband through Community Theater experience. With war raging all around, I asked myself the question, "How would a war widow adjust to a new life in new surroundings?" I love the movie and the values it exposes on community and the impact one life can make. While their individual personalities differ, many of the characters in this book were inspired by people I met during my twenty years of Community Theater involvement.
As with all my books, this story evolved around a character or characters facing significant social issue. It is my hope to reach readers undergoing traumatic events in their life with the message that God is in control of our circumstances. When we let go of our anxiety, He is able to fashion a satisfying existence in spite of our loss.
The hardest part of the book was reliving the pain of my divorce and the trauma of relocation, trying to be both mother and father to my very young children. Yet, through the experience, I gained a great appreciation of God's magnificent timing as he reshaped my life through the pain of loss.
I needed to research the main character's circumstances of losing her spouse while living in base housing. How long could she stay there? What would her economic challenges be? I had to research real estate and certain aspects of Adirondack Peaks. I also needed to revisit the play, although I did direct it years ago.
I want readers to understand that, regardless of the traumatic circumstances around us, God is at work fashioning a wonderful life for His child, truths and purposes we had never thought possible.
